Old fashioned letter

Written by Mr Heff on July 25th, 2022.      0 comments

This is a letter I wrote to a few bookshops recently. Sort of a historical or hysterical document really. Most folk have probably not had one for quite a while. If young, maybe never even seen or received one. Bit sad really.

The Impossible Tasks

Well, there just had to be a sequel to the first 'Dragon Tales' book. Once again Princess Miranda poses all sorts of problems, especially for princes wishing to marry her. She has no desire to marry, but her father the king insists that it is time.
Prince Sebastian doesn't impress her at all.. a bit of a nerdy wimp.
I like Sebastian..he goes to show that you can underestimate folk.

I enjoyed writing this book because it was quick and easy. I just took the photographs of my ceramic pieces and rewrote the text that went with each piece and then adding a wee drawing.
It also provided me with a catalogue of my work. The book is usually placed below my ceramic work in galleries.
It is also sold as a standalone book for its whimsical/inspirational messages.

Sponge Cake Man

This chapter book is in the final editing stages by my good friend Murray. I enjoyed writing this story and doing the many, many illustrations. Sponge Cake Man has to initially deal to the prefect bullies in Black Forest High.
Gran designed his special suit and Francis finds he has to also deal with the Cockroach and his thugs, a crooked Mayor and Chief of Police as well as the mysterious Grabbers and Aliens.

Mr Heff Illustrations

Written by Mr Heff on October 20th, 2021.      0 comments

Most of my illustrations are simple line drawings. In most drawings I like to put a fair  bit of detail in  because when I worked with kids they seemed to like that and I enjoy putting in all the fiddly bits..wires. buttons and whatnots.I do a little shading but am more comfortable with just line. Something the kids can have a try at, or even colour in. Did you spot the wee bird in most of the "Sponge Cake Man' illustrations?control room-33-599-679-359-933

Special Thanks to my reviewers.

All my books are trialed out in schools before publication. My main schools in Thames and surrounds are Moanataiari and Waitakaruru. Super relieving teacher Andi Walker checks the books out with the pupils and as a result they have made some good suggestions and given me great feedback.
Like most adult novels I decided to put kids reviews on my front or back cover..something new
I had a super visit to Room 9 at Moanataiari where I read 'Robert the Polar Bear."
We had some fun with back up vocal groups, yelling out loud YAHOOs to keep all classrooms on their toes and we did some awesome drawings.

The Last Dragon Family.

Just finished 'THE LAST DRAGON FAMILY.' At the printers at the moment. Yahoo.
I enjoyed doing the detailed drawings. Adding special little bits for kids to find.
Much  quicker doing these illustrations seeing as I didn't have to colour them in.
King Thaddeus The Great arrives......slayer of three dragons and national petanque champion.
king arrives-960-122
The dragon family around the fire early in the morning.
They are possibly the last known dragons alive and so are just not keen on battling with knights
keen on saving princesses and ending with the prospect of having their heads mounted on some mouldy castle wall. Not unlike their own collection of vanquished knights helmets.

I first wrote this story about Robert the Polar Bear way back on the 1st April 1996. I did a mock up of the book and there are very few changes from that original first draft. Got it right the first time..yahoooo
I can also personalize any book you purchase......just let me know what you would like me to write.

'Ikky Sticky' is my second picture book and will be out soon. It's about a monster who has no friends He is very messy with sticky, gluey bits all over his body. The other monsters send him out into the Halloween streets to bring back some children to scare. This proves not to be an easy task.
Some reviews of Ikky by children at a local school prior to publishing in order to get feedback.
